The Ecosystem Services Identification and Inventory (ESII) Field App helps anyone interested in learning more about nature collect environmental data so that they can understand the natural benefits (ecosystem services) provided by the environment. The ESII Field App gives land managers, business people, teachers, etc. the ability to identify and measure those benefits so they can better understand the value of natural lands and waters and incorporate that learning into site design and management decisions.

The App is the field component of the ESII Tool, which was designed by The Dow Chemical Company, The Nature Conservancy, and EcoMetrix Solutions Group, for corporate, municipal, and NGO decision makers who need to rapidly assess the value of nature to a business or community. The App pairs with a web analysis portal that is used to review and edit the data collected, run the data through ecological models, and generate results that quantify existing ecosystem benefit production, as well as allow the user to model potential future “what if” scenarios.

USER-FRIENDLY
The ESII App can be used by anyone, from experts to people with limited ecological background and training, to collect site-specific data. A Help icon with detailed explanations for each question means non-ecologists can easily collect data using the App.

CREATE AND EDIT MAP UNIT BOUNDARIES
Map the various habitats and developed areas on your site or area of interest, creating or editing map unit boundaries as necessary to reflect actual site conditions.

COLLECT ECOLOGICAL DATA
The ESII App guides you through a data collection survey for the habitat type, vegetation attributes, and ground surface conditions.

The ESII app is one part of a comprehensive analysis system. To see your results and access the full functionality of the ESII Tool, please visit www.esiitool.com.
